Special JGIM Supplement: VA Research on Women's Health
The Journal of General Internal Medicine has published a special supplement on VA research on women's health. Women are the fastest growing segment of eligible VA health care users and have their own unique health care needs. In 1992, VA formally targeted health issues specific to women veterans as research priorities. The articles in this special Supplement present information on the health and healthcare delivery issues affecting women veterans, and highlight VA organizational changes to improve access to and quality of VA women's health care. The Supplement includes an editorial on the health and health care of women veterans, in addition to articles addressing topics such as: why women veterans do or do not choose VA healthcare, contraceptive availability at VA medical facilities, how PTSD screening status is associated with the use of medical and surgical care in the VA, and what physicians should know about women who serve in war. The Supplement also includes a "Perspective" that reports on the VA Office of Research and Development's initiative toward improving women's health and to position VA as a national leader in women's health research.
Many HSR&D investigators contributed articles to this important Supplement, including Drs. Donna Washington and Elizabeth Yano, who also served as guest editors.
