Credentialing

Credentialing refers to the systematic process of screening and evaluating qualifications and other credentials, including licensure, registration or certification, required education, relevant training and experience, and current competence and health status.

Key VHA documents regarding credentialing include:

  • VHA Directive 1200 - Veterans Health Administration Research and Development Program (This VHA Directive is scheduled for recertification on or before the last working day of May 2021.)

  • VHA Handbook 1100.19 - Credentialing and Privileging (This VHA Handbook is scheduled for recertification on or before the last working day of October 2017.)

  • VHA Directive 2006-067 has been rescinded. Please refer to VHA Directive 2012-030 - Credentialing of Health Care Professionals (This VHA Directive expires October 31, 2017.).
