Technology Transfer Assistance Program

The VA Technology Transfer Assistance Program (TTAP), established in 2018 by the VA Technology Transfer Program (TTP), accelerates the transition of VA discoveries to those who need them most. By supporting the development of functional prototypes and providing expert commercialization guidance, TTAP ensures advanced solutions reach Veterans and the extended community more rapidly and effectively. Rooted in a Veteran-centric philosophy, the program focuses on the needs and experiences of service members and Veterans at every stage. Through an outcome-driven, experience-based design process, TTAP creates and adapts advanced devices and methodologies designed for the distinct challenges faced by Veterans. Acting as an important bridge between VA researchers and market-ready prototypes, TTAP streamlines regulatory compliance and partners with contract manufacturers to expedite clinical testing. By deploying these advancements across the VA system, TTAP delivers practical, market-ready solutions that improve care and support for Veterans.

RECOVER empowers Veterans to engage in meaningful roles and activities. The program develops, evaluates, and translates innovative rehabilitation interventions and technologies into clinical practice. This ensures real-world impact for Veterans. RECOVER primarily serves two groups: Veterans with lower-limb amputations and those with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCID). Both require comprehensive rehabilitation across recovery and life transitions. Recognizing their complex needs, RECOVER promotes optimal recovery and empowers Veterans to lead fulfilling lives. The initiative removes barriers to participation, manages pain and secondary complications, and supports aging Veterans to maintain independence in their communities.

TTAP engineers drive RECOVER's research mission and use their specialized expertise to develop innovative prototypes that improve the quality of life for Veterans, caregivers, and clinicians.
