Major lower extremity amputation procedures secondary to compromised vascularity demonstrate extremely high rates of infection, wound complication, mortality, and reoperation, resulting in reduced mobility, cardiovascular deconditioning, and muscle weakness, decreasing the probability of future prosthetic fitting.
