VA Central Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Within the office of the VA Office of Enterprise Protections, Regulatory, Outreach, and Systems (ePROS) sits the VA Central Institutional Review Board (VA Central IRB).

Purpose: The VA Central IRB was established in 2008.  The purpose of the VA Central IRB is to enhance the quality of human research protection by performing appropriate ethical and scientific review while ensuring local issues are addressed. The four VA Central IRB Panels provide the single IRB oversight required for multi-site studies by the 2018 Common Rule as well as serve as the IRB of Record for a select number of ORD-approved small VA research programs providing centralized processes and support in VA regulations and requirements.
