Diabetes and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) disproportionately affect our nation's Veterans. Diabetic patients have limited collateralization and regenerative capacity in their tissues. Diabetic patients with peripheral arterial disease have severe ischemic complications and are at grave risk of major amputation.
