Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a multifaceted disorder precipitated by exposure to a psychologically distressing event. Although, diagnostic symptoms for PTSD include hyperarousal, re- experiencing (flashbacks/nightmares), and avoidance, sleep disruptions are considered the hallmark of PTSD.
