Background: Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder that is associated with a progressive decline in cognitive function that slowly robs people of the ability to function independently. Community Living Centers (CLCs) provide care for approximately 20,000 Veterans with dementia annually, many of whom have comorbid conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury that can complicate their care.
