Background: Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI) are among the most commonly prescribed medications at the VA and elsewhere. Evidence suggests PPI use is associated with increased risk of adverse health outcomes including cardiovascular disease, pneumonia, Clostridium difficile infections, gastric cancer, and kidney disease.
