Laboratory Animal Major Equipment (LAMb) Program and Shared Equipment Evaluation Program (ShEEP)

Go back to BLR&D | CSR&D

In anticipation of budgetary constraints, MedHe will not be releasing an RFA for ShEEP for FY25.   A limited number of LAM requests to replace critical equipment in VA veterinary medical unit may be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Please contact Dr. Alex Chiu (alex.chiu@va.gov) or Ms. Sara Clark (sara.clark@va.gov) for information.

The ORD Shared Equipment Program is an intramural program available to VA-salaried investigators at VAMCs or VA-approved sites. The PI must be a senior VA investigator who has a history of independent research funding, holds a current merit or research career scientist award and has at least a 5/8th VA appointment. Each PI is allowed to submit only one application to this RFA; however, a VA facility may submit multiple applications for different research equipment If funded, equipment must be in a VA or VA-leased space. Space under a shared use agreement (i.e. revocable license) is not considered VA or VA-leased space.

The Program provides an opportunity for VA Medical Centers to acquire expensive research equipment or instruments that are needed for VA-supported projects but cannot be acquired using other funding mechanisms. Types of instruments supported include, but are not limited to, confocal and electron microscopes, biomedical imagers, mass spectrometers, DNA sequencers, biosensors, cell-sorters, X-ray diffraction systems, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers, 3D motion capture systems, advanced 3D printing systems, and large machine tools. Requests for animal facility equipment should be made via the Laboratory Animal Major Equipment (LAMb) mechanism.

Applications must be submitted by the local research office through grants.gov. Please refer to the RFA for detailed instructions. (Note: The ShEEP RFA and LAMb submission instructions are available on the VA Research Intranet, available only from within the VA firewall. If you are viewing from within the VA network, copy and paste this URL http://vaww.research.va.gov/funding/rfa.cfm into your browser.)

Questions may be addressed to Dr. Alex Chiu at (202) 443-5672 or alex.chiu@va.gov or VACOInfrastructure@va.gov.
